Old Hill 251 – 1 beat Eastnor 122 by 129 runs.
Old Hill First XI opened their 2011 campaign with a game against Eastnor at Haden Hill in the First Round of the Graham Williamson Trophy in lovely sunny conditions. Having won the toss, Old Hill elected to bat first but teenage openers Alex Hills and Mike Hingley, found the going tough with the ball seaming around alarmingly in the initial overs. However, they stuck to their task and began to strike the ball with more freedom to amass an excellent opening partnership of 141 runs off 28 overs before Mike Hingley (63) played on. Alex Hills was then joined by Captain Nathan Round (61 not out) as they increased the tempo to take their unbroken partnership past the century mark as Old Hill finished on 251 – 1 wicket off their allotted 40 overs. Alex Hills just missing out on a maiden century for the hosts ending up 99 not out. In reply, Eastnor also found runs hard to come by and lost wickets steadily to some tight bowling by the hosts. Nathan Round (2 – 8), Zafran Ali (2 – 11), James Hunt
(2 – 18), Nigel Davenport (2 – 33), all taking a brace of wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 122 off 38.1 overs as Old Hill won by 129 runs to go through to the next round on Saturday with an away game at Wellington.
Sunday 24 April 2011
Moseley 267 – 4 beat Old Hill 254 – 8 by 13 runs.
Drawn away at Moseley in the First Round of the National Knockout Cup, a relatively inexperienced Old Hill First XI gave a very good account of themselves as they fell just 13 runs off a formidable target set by their hosts. Having won the toss, Old Hill elected to field but found the going difficult as the Moseley openers Jones (100) and Chase (66) posted an opening partnership of 169 before being parted in the 33rd over. This set the springboard for a large Moseley total of 267 – 4 wickets off 45 overs. Hafeez also scored a half century. Old Hill’s young openers Dan Cox (27) and Alex Hills (23) acquitted themselves very well against their Premier League opponents before being parted with the score at 61 off 11 overs. The visitors then lost another 5 wickets for the addition of 96 runs off a further 18 overs before Andy Fisher (52) was joined by Nigel Davenport (52) and they set the Moseley attack putting on 85 runs in the next 14 overs before both getting out with 3 overs left. Unfortunately, the task was just beyond the visitors who after a valiant effort finished on
254 – 8 wickets as their allotted overs ran out.
Saturday 30 April 2011
Wellington 211 – 6 (40 overs) beat Old Hill 205 – 6 (40 overs) by 6 runs.
The First XI played their Second Round Graham Williamson Trophy match away against Wellington on a sunny afternoon. The team wore black armbands as a mark of respect following the untimely death earlier in the week of fellow player Neil Pestridge aged 44. Batting first, the hosts lost early wickets and appeared to be in trouble at 120 – 5 wickets off 28 overs but thanks to some good batting by Price (58 not out) and Wagner (34), Wellington finished on 211 – 6 wickets off their 40 overs. Old Hill’s reply got off to a steady start but when Nitesh Patel (52) was joined by Captain Nathan Round (45), they put together a partnership of 77 runs as the visitors seemed to be on target for victory. However, both were then removed in quick succession and in spite of a valiant effort by Carl Whyte (29 not out), Old Hill fell 6 runs short of their target to lose a closely fought match as their overs ran out.
Sunday 1 May 2011
Moddershall 242 (42 overs) lost to Old Hill 266 – 8 (45 overs) by 24 runs.
In the First Round of the Staffordshire Cup, Old Hill were drawn away at Moddershall. Having lost the toss, the visitors were invited to bat and were struggling on 24 – 3 wickets. Then a brilliant 144 run partnership between Carl Whyte (64) and Dan Wood (71) plus cameo’s from Fisher, Moseley and Baig, took Old Hill’s total to a massive 266 – 8 wickets off their 45 overs. The Moddershall openers reached 47 before they were both out without addition to the score. From this point, all the Old Hill bowlers, Whyte (3), Moseley (2), Round (2), Ali (2) and Baig took wickets as the hosts were bowled out for 242 as the visitors completed an excellent victory by 24 runs.
Saturday 7 May 2011
Coventry & N.W. (2 points) 156 – 8 lost to Old Hill (20 points) 162 – 3 by 7 wickets.
After two months of fine and sunny weather it was inevitable that the rains would arrive to greet the new League programme. The First XI were away at Binley Road and after a delayed start won the toss and asked Coventry & N.W. to bat first and the Old Hill bowlers soon made inroads into the batting as the home side slumped to 52 – 4, but with the help of a dropped catch in the slips the home side put together a stand of 49 before Pickering (40) was removed by Nathan Round. The visitors’ bowlers continued to keep a tight grip on the home side’s batsmen and restricted them to 156 – 8 from their 47 overs with Zafran Ali the pick of the bowlers with 5 – 35. Bainstow (58) top scored for Coventry & N.W. In reply, Old Hill got off to a good start before the openers were parted with the score at 36 but some good solid batting by the top order ensured the visitors cruised to victory by 7 wickets and 12 overs to spare, as Nathan Round (35 not out) and Dan Wood (38 not out) put together an unbroken partnership of 68 to complete a very good all round performance.
Saturday 14 May 2011
Old Hill (1 point) 64 lost to Berkswell (20 points) 65 – 4 by 6 wickets.
Having lost a vital toss in the match against Berkswell at Haden Hill, Old Hill First XI were put into bat and the game was all over in less than three hours. Mike Hingley (10) and Dan Cox (6) opened the batting serenely before mayhem hit the host’s batsmen as they collapsed from 16 – 0 wickets to 26 – 7 wickets in the ninth over due to some indifferent batting in the heavy atmosphere coupled with some very accurate bowling by Milnes (4 – 21) and Cheslyn (3 – 16) which left Old Hill a mountain to climb if they were to post a competitive total. Late resistance by Nigel Davenport (14) and Mark Fisher (10) got the score up to 64 before the innings closed after just 22.1 overs. In reply, Berkswell lost 3 early wickets but then coasted to victory by 6 wickets off 19 overs, with young keeper Neale on 25 not out to add to his 6 catches in the Old Hill innings seeing the visitors home.

ECB National Club T20 Competition:
Old Hill 185 – 4 beat West Bromwich Dartmouth 102 by 83 runs.
In sharp contrast to yesterday’s game at Haden Hill, the hosts took on Premier League leaders West Bromwich Dartmouth and engineered a comprehensive victory over their opponents. Batting first, the home side totalled a massive 185 – 4 wickets from their 20 overs. Leading the charge was Captain Nathan Round (47) and Alex Hills (56 not out) backed up by a late flurry of hitting from Carl Whyte who scored 32 off 15 balls at the death. The visitors started their reply well enough in the early overs but the Old Hill bowlers soon made inroads into their opponent’s innings as Zafran Ali (3 – 17), Jon Baig (2- 8) and Jared Daniels (2 – 4) took wickets at regular intervals and West Bromwich Dartmouth were bowled out for 102 in 16.2 overs to give Old Hill victory by 83 runs.
Saturday 21 May 2011
Old Hill (24 points) 226 – 5 beat Bromsgrove (4 points) 171 by 55 runs.
Old Hill supporters were treated to a roller coaster afternoon when the First XI took on Bromsgrove at Haden Hill. Having been put in to bat, Old Hill openers, Dan Cox (26) and Mike Hingley built an opening partnership of 53 before being parted in the tenth over. Nitesh Patel (51) joined Hingley and in spite of some tight spin bowling by the visitors, put together a stand of 118 before Patel was out caught on the boundary with the score on 171 off 46 overs. The expected late acceleration never materialised but Mike Hingley (109 not out) went on to complete a magnificent unbeaten century, reaching the mark with a colossal six into the trees on the bank as the hosts reached 226 – 5 wickets off 55 overs. The Bromsgrove reply got off to a terrific start in the first two eventful overs reaching 19 – 2 wickets and 44 – 2 wickets off five. However, with the introduction of “Sharky” Hussain, wickets began to tumble and the visitors lurched to 104 – 8 wickets off 26 overs. Although the visitors managed to increase their score by a further 67 runs, they were bowled out for 171 with Hussain finishing with brilliant figures of 7 – 41 as Old Hill completed an excellent victory to take maximum points.
Saturday 28 May 2011
Walmley (3 points) 101 lost to Old Hill (20 points) 102 – 8 by 2 wickets.
In a wildly fluctuating game at The Memorial Ground, the First XI led by a Captain’s innings from Nathan Round, managed victory by 2 wickets after Zafran Ali (4 – 23) had bowled excellently to set up a moderate target of 102 for the visitors to chase as the home side were bowled out in 38.3 overs. Having won the toss, Old Hill chose to field and were soon among the wickets as Walmley crashed to 38 – 7 wickets in the 20th over due to some hostile bowling by Ali, Kyle, Hadnett and Sharkey Hussain before Findley (30) and Painter (20 not out) managed to push the total up to 101. Although the wicket did not appear to be ideal for batting, there did not seem to be any hidden demons. However, the visitors also found the going tough and were themselves in trouble at 49 – 6 wickets. Round had joined the fray with the score at 15 – 2 wickets but proceeded to play a real Captain’s innings as he held firm to see his team home to victory in the 39th over with a magnificent knock of 54 not out to lead Old Hill to victory by 2 wickets.
Sunday 29 May 2011
Smethwick 187 – 8 beat Old Hill 185 – 8 by 2 wickets – Staffs Cup Second Round
Old Hill travelled the short distance to Broomfield for their Second Round Cup Game against Smethwick and batting first scored 185 – 8 wickets off their 45 overs with Dan Cox (64) and Alex Hills (34) top scoring for the visitors. The hosts reply got off to a steady start before the introduction of Alex Hills put the brakes on Smethwick as he took 2 wickets with his first 2 balls and ended the match with 4 wickets to add to his 34 runs with the bat. However, it was not quite enough as the home side reached their target (187 – 8) in the last of their 45 overs to win a tight game by 2 wickets – a very good effort by an under-strength Old Hill XI.
Saturday 4 June 2011
Shifnal (3 points) 170 lost to Old Hill (20 points) 171 – 4 by 6 wickets.
The First XI won the toss in their game away at Priorslee Road and chose to field on a warm but windy afternoon and the Old Hill bowlers soon made inroads into the Shifnal top order. Kyle Hodnett (4 – 37) and Nigel Davenport (3 – 44) were the pick of the bowlers but Brabazon (74) and Parker (32) put up some stubborn resistance for the hosts who were finally bowled out for 170 in the penultimate over. Old Hill then lost an early wicket but Dan Cox (32), Nitesh Patel (32) and Dan Wood (28) made significant contributions before another unbeaten knock of 44 runs by Captain Nathan Round, ably assisted by Carl Whyte (16 not out) saw the visitors home to a comfortable victory by 6 wickets with 16 overs remaining.

Evesham (2 points) 84 – 1 drew with Old Hill (14 points) 251 - 4.
The First XI were away at Evesham for the first time ever in a League game at the weekend and the fixture was badly affected by the inclement weather. Batting first, Old Hill got off to a steady start as openers Mike Hingley (20) and Dan Cox (48) ably assisted by anchor man Mark Fisher (77 not out) set up a platform for an explosive innings from Nigel Davenport who, having joined the fray late on, rocketed to his half century within just 7 overs as he ended up 61 not out in the visitors total of 251 – 4 wickets off their 55 overs in spite of the disruptive nature of the weather. During the tea interval the rain arrived in earnest with the home side’s overs being reduced and new targets set as the showers set in. At the resumption, new boy Ed Denham immediately took a wicket as Evesham struggled against Old Hill’s tight bowling between the showers and the visitors took a 10 point winning draw plus bonus points as the weather intervened to end the game prematurely.
Sat 25th June 2011
Wombourne (3pts) 174 - 8 lost to Old Hill (20pts) 178 - 3 by 7 wkts.
In their away game at Church Road against Wombourne the 1st XI won the toss and chose to field in a reduced overs game. The batsmen began cautiously as two wickets fell with the score on 38. After the fall of two further wickets for the addition of 26 runs the Wombourne scoring rate was kept in check by some tight Old Hill bowling and they ended their innings on 174 - 8 wkts from 49 overs with Nigel Davenport (4.34) and Ed Denham (2.27) being pick of the
visitors bowlers. In reply Old Hill lost opener Mike Hingley with the score on 22 before a stand of 97 between opener Dan Cox (115) and Mark Fisher (29) helped the visitors close in on victory. Unfortunately Dan Cox's magnificent century came to an end with the scores tied, but Alex Hills cracked the necessary runs to see Old Hill home to an excellent 7 wickets victory with 4.3 overs remaining to move into 2nd place in the table.

In reply Walmley lost early wickets as Zaf Ali (2) Alex Hills(1) Sharkey Hussain (3) and Nigel Davenport (3) restricted the visitors to 140-9 wkts as Old Hill won by 32
runs to move on to the final.
The Final: Old Hill won the toss and elected to bat but got off to a poor start against Dorridge losing their first 2 wickets for just 18 runs. Then a good stand by Dan Cox (32) and Carl Whyte (46) got Old Hill back on track followed by some lusty hitting by Nigel Davenport (30 n.o.) and Dan Wood (28) which took the hosts to 155-5wkts. The Dorridge reply started well before Carl Whyte (1) Nigel Davenport (1) and Zafram Ali (2) Sharkey Hussain (1) and Jared Daniels (1) began to take wickets to put a strangle-hold on the scoring and with Mark Fisher tidy behind the stumps the required run rate began to rise. Then a magnificent running catch by Alex Hills left the visitors with a mountain to climb off the last over bowled by Sharkey Hussain. However Old Hill held their nerve to win a memorable match by 9 runs as they move on to the Area Finals to be held in July with two very good all round performances.
Saturday 2 July 2011
Old Hill (8 points) 200 – 9 drew with Attock (16 points) 245 - 8.
The First XI played hosts to Attock at Haden Hill on a perfect summers afternoon before a large expectant crowd but after the euphoria of last weekend’s successes they turned in a below par performance against the revitalised visitors. Having won the toss, Old Hill chose to field and Ed Denham took the first wicket before a run had been scored but then partnerships of 84 and 104 between centurion Q Zaman (106) and first J Khan (39) and then A Mahmood (42) took Attock to 193 – 3 before a flurry of five wickets for 25 runs left the visitors struggling to post a commanding total. However, a late rally took the score to 245 – 8 wickets off their 55 overs with Zafran Ali (3 – 58) and Nigel Davenport (2 – 69) the pick of the home bowlers. Old Hill’s reply started well enough as Dan Cox (11), Nitesh Patel (27) and Mike Hingley (43) took the hosts to 93 – 1 before the unfortunate Hingley received a nasty blow on the foot, disturbing his concentration, to be caught at mid-on immediately after the injury. Old Hill then struggled to push on against a mixture of hostile fast and spin bowling finding themselves staring defeat in the face with the last pair at the wicket and 10 overs remaining but with some resolute and sensible batting by last pair Zafran Ali (15 not out) and Sharkey Hussain (5 not out) they weathered the storm to salvage a draw.
Saturday 9 July 2011
Kenilworth Wardens (3 points) 123 lost to Old Hill (24 points) 195 – 6 by 72 runs.
The First XI game away at Kenilworth was played out on a difficult well worn pitch but having chosen to bat first, Old Hill openers, Mike Hingley (46) and Danny Cox (56) managed to put together a century opening partnership before being parted with the score on 108 in the 35th over. Then, cameo innings from Nitesh Patel (34) and Nigel Davenport (25) took the visitors total to an impressive 195 – 6 wickets off their 55 overs. In reply, the home side got off to the worst possible start as Zafran Ali trapped Bell l.b.w. off the first ball of the innings. From then on it was always an uphill struggle for the hosts as Old Hill made inroads into their leading batsmen, giving them no respite. Pick of the visitors bowlers was Nigel Davenport with (5 – 31) closely followed by Sharkey Hussain (3 – 42) aided by some excellent fielding as Old Hill completed another brilliant victory on the road. They now need to improve their poor home record of just one League win so far at Haden Hill.
Saturday 16 July 2011
Old Hill (20 points) 120 – 1 beat Coventry & N.W. (0 points) 118 by 9 wickets.
Thanks to the sterling efforts of our groundsman, Peter Day and his son Tom, with a little help from his friends following the overnight and morning rains, the First XI game at Haden Hill started with the match reduced to 34 overs per side. Having won the toss, Captain Nathan Round invited Coventry to bat first and the host’s bowlers, Ed Denham and Zafran Ali reduced the visitors to 57 – 5 wickets in the 13th over. Then a stand of 47 runs between Clements (32) and Horsley (22) halted Old Hill’s progress temporarily before Sharkey Hussain came on to take 4 – 23 including two wickets in one over to mop up the lower order for just 14 additional runs. Zafran Ali finished with 4 – 54 and Ed Denham an excellent
2 – 14 from 7 overs as Coventry were bowled out in the 30th over for a meagre 118 runs. In reply, Old Hill’s Danny Cox and Mike Hingley put together a half century opening partnership before Cox holed out in the deep for 22. Then Hingley (42 not out) and Nitesh Patel (39 not out) saw the hosts home to a thoroughly deserved victory in the 29th over with an unbroken stand of 66. The win takes Old Hill to the top of the League as they recorded only their second home victory of the season.
Saturday 23rd July 2011
Berkswell (24pts)130-4 beat Old Hill (2pts)127 by 6 wkts
The first XI, having won the toss away at title rivals Berkswell and chosen to bat first, lost both openers Danny Cox (2) and Mike Hingley (19) – lbw to a ball which kept low – with the score on 26. But worse was to follow when captain Nathan Round was also out lbw to another ball which kept low without scoring (26-3). Nitesh Patel (22), Dan Wood (26) and Mark Fisher did their best to repair the damage on a very difficult pitch but could only manage to get the score up to 111-9 wkts, before a last wicket stand between Fisher (25 n.o.) and Zafran Ali (14) got the total up to 127 all out in the 43rd over. This total never seemed enough to be competitive and as the wicket appeared to flatten out Berkswell made the most of the condition to cruise serenely to victory after an early scare when they were 9-2. Zafran Ali (2-33), Nathan Round (1-18) and a valiant effort by Ed Denham of 17-3-35-1 could not prise the home batsmen out, with the hosts eventually winning by 6 wickets to regain top spot in the table. Their winning score of 130-4wkts was made in 48.1 overs.
Saturday 30 July 2011
Bromsgrove (16 points) 219 drew with Old Hill (8 points) 163 - 8.
The First XI won the toss away at Bromsgrove and elected to field first. They got off to a good start with some impressive bowling from Ed Denham (4 – 44) as the hosts were in trouble at 69 – 5 from 18 overs before a stubborn fifth wicket partnership of 99 between Newdick (44) and Friend (73) took the total to 168 and they were parted with 12 overs remaining. However, some indifferent bowling from the visitors helped the Bromsgrove tail to post a score of 219 all out off 51.3 overs, a total that looked way beyond the hosts at the outset. A Hussain bowled well for the visitors with a return of 17 – 6 – 28 – 2. Old Hill’s reply got off to a frantic start as the hosts opening bowler, Friend, was removed from the action by the umpire after just 3 balls and O’Connor injured in his fifth over, leaving Bromsgrove with no alternative but to turn to spin. This turned out to be good for the hosts as the scoring rate dropped dramatically. Opener, Dan Cox (36) was out with the total on 63 and Nitesh Patel was out on the second ball without scoring. Mike Hingley went on to score (44) and Dan Wood (24) but with the wicket taking more and more spin, the visitors batsmen found runs hard to come by and they ended up 56 runs short of their target as the additional overs ran out. Old Hill could only manage a losing draw finishing on 163 – 8 wickets. D’Oliveira took 6 – 38 for the hosts.
Saturday 6 August 2011
Old Hill (24 points) 211 beat Walmley (6 points) 174 by 37 runs.
It was fasten your seat belts for yet another roller coaster ride at Haden Hill when the First XI took on Walmley. The visitors won the toss and chose to field and they had an immediate success in the second over as Mike Hingley was out without scoring. Nitesh Patel (23) joined Dan Cox (37) and they put together a second wicket stand of 64 before being parted. Captain Nathan Round (49) looked well set and together with a superb innings by Dan Wood (62) seemed to have set Old Hill up for a large total as they reached 201 – 5 wickets in the 48th over. Then a major collapse meant that the hosts lost 5 wickets for 10 runs in 3 overs to be bowled out for 211 with 4 overs remaining. Before Walmley could begin their reply, rain intervened which necessitated a re-calculation of overs and target (204 off 53 overs to attain a winning draw). On resumption, the visitors also lost early wickets to Zafran Ali to be 14 – 2 in the 5th over. Then with the score on 54 – 2 after 14 overs, the rains returned and following another delay a revised target of 189 off 49 overs was set in place. Amidst many close calls and missed chances by the hosts, Walmley with a wonderful knock by opener Tim Gruijters, crept ever closer to their target. However, a brilliant run out by Nathan Round with a direct hit and the capture of Gruijters (89) to Zafran Ali, it was left to Sharkey Hussain to finish off the tail with the aid of a Nigel Davenport catch, the visitors finally capitulating to 174 all out in 44 overs as Old Hill joined Berkswell in top position in the League Table.
Saturday 13 August 2011
Dorridge (20 points) 198 – 2 beat Old Hill (2 points) 195 – 9 by 8 wickets.
The First XI lost the toss away at Dorridge and were put in to bat on a green wicket and with just 7 runs on the board both the Old Hill openers were back in the pavilion and worse was to follow as Mark Fisher, Nathan Round (27), Dan Wood (22), Carl Whyte and the unfortunate Nigel Davenport run out for 17, joined them as the score lurched to 89 – 7 wickets in the 24th over. Then all hopes of a decent total seemed lost with only 123 runs on the board and the last pair at the wicket. However, a brilliant unbroken last wicket stand of 72 runs between Jared Daniels 51 not out, his maiden half century for the first team, and last man Zafran Ali 24 not out, they managed to get the score up to 195 – 9 wickets in their allotted overs. Dorridge batsmen then set about their task with gusto as Webb (56) and Butt (24) had 50 runs on the board in just 11 overs, aided by some indifferent bowling from the visitors attack. Only Nigel Davenport with 1 – 21 off his 8 overs, seemed able to stem the flow as Ball (77 not out) and T Mohammed (25 not out) steered the home side to an easy win with 20 overs to spare to complete Old Hill’s misery.
Sunday 14 August
ECB National Club T20 Competition Area Finals at Longton
Old Hill played hosts Longton in the first semi-final and having won the toss decided to field. Longton posted a total of 159 off their 20 overs but Old Hill managed to reach their target in the last over. Hyde then beat Mochdre in the second semi-final for the right to play Old Hill. In the final, Old Hill again won the toss and invited their opponents to bat first and Hyde got off to an electric start with a 50 partnership off the first 4 overs as they set a target of 183 for Old Hill to chase. Once again the batsmen started well enough and upped the rate in mid innings until 8 runs were needed for victory off the last 2 balls. With just a single scored off the penultimate ball, a 6 was needed off the lasts ball to bring the scores level. This was achieved by Ed Denham. When the excitement had subsided and the Rule Book checked, it turned out that Hyde had won on a faster scoring rate in the first 5 overs. So near and yet so far.
Saturday 20 August 2011
Old Hill (20 points) 223 – 7 beat Shifnal (6 points) 221 – 8 by 3 wickets.
The First XI played hosts to Shifnal at Haden Hill in cool overcast conditions and having won the toss chose to field. The visitors opening pair were parted with the score on 25, Ed Denham making the first strike followed by a good spell by Ashfak Hussain (4 – 53) from his 17 overs as Shifnal struggled to 168 – 7 wickets. However, the visitors were somewhat let off the hook in the remaining 9 overs as they took their total to 221 – 8 wickets off their 55 overs with Stuart Blount finishing 67 not out assisted by some lusty blows from Jonty Mountfield (30). Old Hill openers Dan Cox (28) and Mike Hingley began cautiously putting together an opening stand of 65 before Cox was first to go. Hingley was then joined by Nitesh Patel (53) who scored a superb half century before being out with the score on 140. The home batsmen then appeared to lose their way although Mike Hingley looked well set for a ton until he was out unexpectedly for an excellent 71 runs. Then, having been promoted to No.5 in the order by Captain Mark Fisher, Nigel Davenport steadied the ship and guided Old Hill to victory with a brilliant undefeated innings of 47. The win keeps Old Hill in the mix for promotion as it all gets very tight at the summit of the League Table.
Saturday 27 August 2011
Brockhampton (24 points) 255 - 8 beat Old Hill (3 points) 83 by 172 runs.
The First XI game in Herefordshire against Brockhampton could not start on time due to the overnight rain, so having won the toss Old Hill decided to bowl on what looked like a damp track but the hosts’ batsmen made light of the bowler friendly conditions and hammered the visitors attack to all parts of the ground as they ran up a formidable total of 255 – 8 wickets off 50 overs with Adam Hewlett top scoring with 109. The most successful Old Hill bowler was Ashfak Hussain with 3 – 95 from 15 overs. In reply, the visitors’ openers got off to a slow start and with 26 runs on the board off 10 overs, Mike Hingley (11) was trapped l.b.w. Fellow opener Danny Cox (18) went on to top score as Old Hill were bowled out for a paltry 83 runs in the 37th over to be beaten by a massive 172 runs. They remain in fourth position in the League Table with just four games to play.
Monday 29 August 2011
Old Hill (20 points) 110 – 0 beat Evesham (0 points) 108 by 10 wickets.
After the disappointing defeat on Saturday, the First XI bounced back at Haden Hill with a comprehensive victory over Evesham on a cold Bank Holiday Monday. Having won the toss, Old Hill chose to field and Ed Denham struck in the first over to reduce the visitors to 4 – 1 wicket. He continued his excellent spell by capturing 2 more wickets in the 8th over before Paul Thomas (28) and George Rhodes (26) put together a determined partnership of 58, ultimately being parted in the 31st over by Ashfak Hussain. The remaining 5 wickets fell for just 24 runs off a further 12 overs as the visitors were bowled out for 108 in the 43rd over. Ed Denham (3 – 24), Nathan Round (1 – 16), Ashfak Hussain (3 – 45) and Nigel Davenport
(3 – 7) shared the wickets for Old Hill with a very workmanlike performance. In reply, the hosts openers Mike Hingley (36 not out) and Captain Nathan Round (67 not out) quickly completed victory for Old Hill in 16.1 overs as they put together an unbroken match winning stand of 110 runs to win the match with all their wickets still intact to keep themselves “in with a shout” for promotion as their patchy form continues in the run-in to the end of the season.

Old Hill (20 points) 234 – 2 beat Wombourne (3 points) 233 – 7 by 8 wickets.
Having won the toss, the First XI elected to field against rivals Wombourne at Haden Hill and removed both openers with just 47 runs on the board. Then some steady batting by Mike Hill (40), Alex Hughes (31) and later Adam Quiney (24) coupled with an explosive innings by Liam Hughes (72 not out including six 4’s and four 6’s) pushed the visitors score past 200. Nigel Davenport bowled well for Old Hill and took 2 – 50 off his 17 overs and Alex Hill’s
(2 – 20) gave him good backing at the death as Wombourne posted a respectable score of
233 – 7 wickets off their 50 overs. Captain Nathan Round then opened the batting for the home side with Mike Hingley and, in the 8th over, the partnership was worth 50 runs due mainly to the quick fire batting of the Captain who reached his half century with some beautiful stroke play all round the wicket. For the second consecutive match, their opening stand reached three figures before Hingley was out stumped by Ian Walker for 33 with the score on 137 in the 28th over. Dan Cox came and went quickly as the visitors bowlers found their line and length before Nitesh Patel (39 not out) including four 4’s and three 6’s and Round who scored a magnificent 146 not out off just 132 balls including seventeen 4’s and two 6’s, saw Old Hill to victory with 6.5 overs to spare, as the match was completed in semi darkness.
Saturday 10 September 2011
Attock (6 points) 238 – 8 drew with Old Hill (14 points) 210 - 4.
Following the early morning rain, the First XI game away at Attock got off to a prompt start and having won the toss the home side elected to bat and they had 52 runs on the board before the openers were parted. Then as Old Hill’s bowlers began to make an impact on the game with the introduction of Nigel Davenport (3 – 57) and Ashfak Hussain (4 – 59), Attock were reduced to 151 – 7 wickets in the 42nd over with only Q Khan (47) showing any resistance. However, a late flurry of runs by the hosts tail enders took their score up to
238 – 8 wickets from their 55 overs, thanks mainly to A Mahmood (69 not out) and K Zaman (30). In reply, Old Hill lost opener Mike Hingley with the score on 4 before fellow opener Nathan Round produced yet another master class 89 not out as he led the visitors to the brink of victory which would have secured a maximum 24 points but it was all to no avail as the rain arrived yet again causing the game to be abandoned. The Captain was ably assisted by Dan Cox (46), Nitesh Patel (37) and Dan Wood (31) in the quest to keep their promotion push alive, especially as news filtered through that rivals Brockhampton had lost their match but it was not to be. With the visitors total on 210 – 4 wickets off just 45.1 overs, the rain intensified and they had to settle for a winning draw. Old Hill now need to win their last home game against Kenilworth, take maximum points and hope for a few favours if they are to achieve their goal!
Saturday 17 September 2011
Old Hill (24 points) 134 – 2 beat Kenilworth Wardens (1 point) 130 by 8 wickets.
The First XI lying third in the Table, played hosts to fourth placed Kenilworth in the final game of the season at Haden Hill with both sides needing to claim 24 points to gatecrash the top two in the Birmingham League to realise their dreams of promotion. Yet again, there was heavy overnight rain but the game started promptly with the visitors winning the toss and electing to bat. In only his second game for the First XI, 16 year old Connor Smith bowled beautifully in his initial 7 overs by claiming the top three batsmen for just 23 runs as Kenilworth were left struggling on 41 – 3 wickets. Sitamsu Kotak (16) was then joined by Sam Wood (25) and they took the score to 86 before a flurry of wickets by Ashfak Hussain and Nigel Davenport reduced the visitors to 113 – 9 wickets. The last pair of Daniel Wood (23) and Alistair Wilkinson (16 not out) then hit out to get the score up to 130 before being parted by leading bowler “Sharkey” Hussain, his 49th wicket of the season, as Kenilworth were all out in 36.1 overs. Davenport took 3 – 32 and Hussain 4 – 33 giving good backing to Smith – an excellent effort by the home side’s bowling attack. In reply, Old Hill’s opening pair of Mike Hingley (24) and Captain Nathan Round (51) quickly compiled a half century stand before Round was first out to a leading edge with 66 runs on the board. Hingley soon followed his Captain back to the pavilion before Danny Cox (28 not out) and Nitesh Patel (29 not out) saw the home side to 134 – 2 wickets and an easy victory with another unbroken half century partnership as Old Hill won by 8 wickets to take the maximum 24 points they required. Nathan Round finished the season in a rich vein of form as he amassed a total of 349 runs in his last 4 innings for once out. With the game finishing just after 4.30 p.m. and Old Hill sitting in second place in the League, attention then focused on the Brockhampton v Evesham game. At this point the news was good from Old Hill’s point of view as the teams were off for rain with only one innings completed and the cut off of 5.15 p.m. for resumption fast approaching, the
